Why UK stock matters: shipping, customs and certificates

"UK stock" is the second most repeated phrase on UK research peptide websites after "99% pure", and it is often untrue. The difference between a supplier who holds vials in a UK freezer and one who forwards your order to a warehouse abroad is not a matter of a few days' delivery; it changes what you receive, what it costs, and who is accountable if it is wrong. What UK-held stock changes

• Transit time. One to two days by tracked courier, against one to four weeks from abroad. For a project timeline that is the difference between ordering when you need it and ordering a month ahead.
• Transit conditions. A day in a courier network versus weeks in air freight, customs sheds and forwarding warehouses. Sealed lyophilised peptide tolerates a lot, but not indefinitely and not if a seal is compromised. See do peptides need to be shipped cold.

• The COA you were sent is the batch you receive. A supplier holding stock can send you the certificate for the vials in the freezer. A drop-shipper cannot know which batch the overseas warehouse will pull.
• Accountability. A UK company holding stock in the UK is subject to UK consumer and medicines law and can be held to a replacement or refund. See the purity guarantee.
• Continuity. Stock in a UK freezer is not subject to a foreign supplier's shipping suspensions, platform bans or customs crackdowns.

How to tell whether a supplier really holds stock

1. Ask for the batch number of the current stock for a specific product, and its COA, before ordering. A stockholder answers in minutes; a drop-shipper stalls or sends a generic document.
2. Check dispatch and delivery claims. "Dispatched within 24 hours, tracked next-day" with a UK courier is consistent with stock; "7-14 days" or "shipping from our warehouse" without a location is not.
3. Look at the tracking when it arrives. The origin scan is on the label.
4. Check the company. A Companies House registration and a UK address are necessary but not sufficient; drop-shippers register companies too.
5. Watch stock behaviour. Genuine stockholders sometimes sell out and say so; a catalogue of two hundred compounds that is never out of stock is being fulfilled from somewhere else.
