Why the Alphex catalogue is small
What it takes to list a compound, why these six, why some requested compounds are not listed, and what a short catalogue gives a laboratory.
Alphex lists six products. Competing UK websites list fifty, a hundred, two hundred. A short catalogue is sometimes read as a limitation; it is a consequence of the operating model, and it is the model, not the length of the list, that determines what a laboratory receives. This note explains why the catalogue is the size it is, how compounds are added, and what to do if you need something we do not stock. All Alphex products are for laboratory and in-vitro research only.
What it takes to list a compound at Alphex
- A synthesis partner able to produce it reliably to 99+% purity, batch after batch.
- An independent laboratory method for it: reference standard qualified, HPLC conditions established, MS identity criteria set. See reference standards.
- A first batch synthesised, purified, vialled in the intended sizes, and passed through that testing.
- UK stock held at -20 C, in quantities we can turn over before a retest date.
- Handling and storage guidance written for it, and a specification table.
Each of those is a real cost per compound, and the model only works if every listed compound is held and tested that way. Listing two hundred compounds under that model would mean either a great deal of slow-moving stock, or dropping the model for most of the list. Suppliers with very large catalogues have generally done the latter: the list is what a manufacturer can supply on request, and the "stock" is a website. See how to spot a drop-shipper.

Tell us via the contact form. Requests are logged and are the main input to what gets added next. We will not source a one-off from a manufacturer and forward it untested; that would be the drop-shipping model with a different label. Will the catalogue grow?
Yes, slowly, one verified compound at a time.
Why bacteriostatic water?
Because most laboratories reconstituting peptides for multi-sample stocks need it, and shipping the matched reagent in the same parcel is useful. See the bacteriostatic water guide.
Can you make a custom peptide?
Not currently. Custom synthesis is a different business with different economics; several UK and EU peptide synthesis companies do it well.
