How Alphex chooses which compounds to list
The five hurdles a compound must clear before listing, why the current six, why some requested compounds are not stocked, and how to influence the list.
Six products, added one at a time, each after clearing the same five hurdles. This note explains how Alphex decides what to list, why some frequently requested compounds are not in the catalogue, and how researchers influence what comes next. All Alphex products are for laboratory and in-vitro research only.
The five hurdles
- Demand from researchers. Requests through the contact form, back-in-stock signups and repeat purchasing tell us what UK laboratories actually want. Search interest is a weaker signal, because much of it is not research demand.
- A manufacturer that can hit 99+% consistently. Not once, but batch after batch. A compound that can only be made to 98% reliably does not get listed, because the specification is the product.
- An analytical method. The independent laboratory needs a qualified reference standard, established HPLC conditions and mass-spec identity criteria for that compound. See reference standards.
- Handling knowledge. We write the storage, solubility and reconstitution guidance ourselves, which means understanding how that compound behaves: light sensitivity, aggregation, buffer compatibility. See the solubility guide.
- Stock economics. Enough turnover to keep certificates recent and avoid material ageing in the freezer. See retesting.
A compound that fails any one of these is not listed, however often it is requested.
Why the current six
- BPC-157 and TB-500: the two most requested research peptides in the UK, both straightforward to synthesise to specification and to verify.
- GHK-Cu: strong demand from both laboratory and cosmetic-science research, with a large published literature; listed in larger vial sizes because that is how it is used.
- Ipamorelin: a well-characterised receptor ligand with a clear pharmacological literature.
- GLP-3 (RT): the hardest item in the catalogue to hold to specification, and the one where independent verification matters most given the amount of poor material in circulation.
- Bacteriostatic water: the matched reconstitution reagent, so a laboratory can order everything it needs in one delivery.
Why some requested compounds are not listed
- No reliable route to 99+% at a price the research market will pay.
- No settled analytical method at our testing laboratory yet.
- Insufficient turnover to keep stock fresh, which would mean ageing certificates.
- Compliance risk where a compound's market is overwhelmingly non-research; we would rather not serve that demand at all. See research use only.

How to influence the list
Tell us what you need and, if it is useful, what you need it for at a technical level (sizes, purity requirement, how much per year). Requests via the contact form are logged and reviewed; a compound with several institutional requests moves up the queue quickly, because turnover is one of the five hurdles.
