Research peptide supplier red flags

The UK research peptide market has excellent suppliers and very poor ones, and they look similar at first glance: clean website, product photography, purity claims, "UK stock". The differences show in a dozen specific places once you know where to look. This note is a compact list of the red flags that most reliably predict problems, grouped by where you will encounter them, with a link to the fuller reasoning for each. On the product page

1. Effects in people described, dosing given, conditions named. A medicines-law breach and a proxy for everything else. See what a compliant listing looks like.
2. "Pharmaceutical grade", "MHRA approved", "FDA registered". Meaningless or false for a research reagent. See MHRA and research peptides.
3. Star ratings not from a review platform, or "was" prices that were never charged. Consumer-law breaches under the DMCC Act 2024.
4. No specification: no sequence, molecular weight, CAS or salt form.
5. Every compound at the same purity to one decimal place.

On the certificate

6. No batch number, no laboratory name, no date. See fake COA red flags.
7. Purity without a chromatogram; identity without a mass.
8. The same document for every batch, for a year. See batch matching.

10. COA only after purchase.

On stock and shipping

11. Huge catalogue, never out of stock. See how to spot a drop-shipper.
12. Vague dispatch times or origin.
13. Prices far below the market for expensive-to-hold compounds.
14. Cold-shipping theatre (a gel pack in an envelope) offered as a quality signal. See shipping cold.

On the company

15. No Companies House registration, or one that does not match the trading name.
16. No physical address, or a virtual office.
17. No named contact or working email; support only via a form that does not reply.
18. ASA rulings or public enforcement history. See advertising rules.
19. Marketing to consumers on social platforms with lifestyle content.

On the guarantee

20. No stated policy for material that fails independent testing, or a policy that cannot work because vials are not batch-numbered. See the purity guarantee.

How many is too many?

One or two of the softer flags (a virtual office, a slightly generic product page) can have innocent explanations. Any of the certificate flags, or any medicinal claim, is disqualifying on its own for a laboratory that needs to trust the material. Run the positive version of this list, the 12-point supplier checklist, and the questions to ask before ordering, and the answers usually sort suppliers cleanly.
