Can universities and labs buy research peptides in the UK?

Yes. Universities, research institutes, contract research organisations, biotech and pharmaceutical companies, and independent researchers can all purchase research peptides in the UK for laboratory use, and Alphex supplies all of them. This note answers the practical questions purchasing departments and principal investigators ask: whether a licence or account is needed, what documentation is available, how invoicing and VAT work, and what institutional approvals apply to the research itself. Who can buy
Any organisation or individual purchasing for laboratory research. There is no statutory licence for buying research peptides in the UK; they are not controlled substances. Alphex asks every purchaser to confirm research use at checkout and reserves the right to decline orders. See are research peptides legal in the UK.
What institutions typically need from a supplier
- An itemised invoice with company registration, issued automatically for every order. Alphex Limited is a UK-registered company (Companies House 16674899). Alphex is not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is charged and no VAT number appears on the invoice.
- Batch-matched Certificate of Analysis for the material supplied, and the ability to obtain it before purchase for procurement review. See the COA library.
- Safety information. Research peptides of this kind are not classified as hazardous under CLP; a safety data sheet or product safety summary is available on request for institutional chemical inventories.
- Specification. Sequence, molecular weight, CAS number, salt form, purity method: on every product page's specification table.
- Supplier details for vendor onboarding: registered address, contact, bank details on the invoice; happy to complete new-supplier forms.
Purchase orders and payment
The web store takes card payment at checkout, which suits most laboratory purchasing cards. Approvals for the research itself
Buying the reagent needs no approval. Using it may, depending on the work:
- In-vitro and cell-based work: normally covered by the laboratory's standard risk assessment and COSHH arrangements.
- Animal research: requires the appropriate licences under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986; the supplier's research-use status is not a substitute for those, and Alphex does not supply material for any purpose outside those frameworks.
- Any proposed human use: falls under clinical trials regulation and MHRA authorisation, for which research-grade reagent is not suitable and not supplied.
Institutional ethics and biosafety committees will expect to see the specification and COA; both are straightforward to supply.
